At the heart of Bundanoon, a dream is quietly taking shape—one rooted in community, compassion, and a deep love for our native wildlife. The Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary has been established by local residents who share a common goal: to protect, care for and learn from the remarkable animals that call this region home.
This is more than a sanctuary—it’s a movement built by the community, for the community. And now, we need your help to take the next step.
Why We’re Raising $500,000
Our Foundational Fundraising Appeal aims to raise $500,000 to launch the sanctuary’s critical first phase. These funds will go directly towards:
* Securing permanent land
* Building essential infrastructure
* Establishing our dedicated Education Centre
* Laying the groundwork for long-term wildlife care and rehabilitation
This isn’t a wish list. It’s a practical, carefully considered plan to create a lasting impact for generations of wildlife—and people.
Education That Inspires Action
Our future Education Centre will be a place where students, families, and visitors of all ages can come to connect with nature, learn about conservation, and see the impact of hands-on wildlife care.
By teaching children about wombats, koalas, and other native species, we’re not just passing on knowledge—we’re nurturing empathy, responsibility, and lifelong advocacy for the environment.
When a local student donates their pocket money to help the wombats, or a class bakes 1,000 wombat cookies to raise funds, we see the kind of deep, meaningful connection that education can foster.

Community at the Centre
We’re incredibly proud to be a sanctuary established by locals—people who have walked the trails of Morton National Park, helped rescued injured wildlife on the roadside, and supported John Creighton’s work for years. The Southern Highlands community has always cared. Now, we’re building the space to carry that care into the future.
This sanctuary belongs to all of us. Together, we’re creating something permanent—something precious.
We Need Your Support
This is your chance to be part of something lasting. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or recently found your way to our beautiful region, your donation—big or small—helps us lay the foundation for care, education, and conservation.
All donations over $2 are tax-deductible in Australia.
