Wombat Cookie Day at Bundanoon Public School

A Sweet Success for Wildlife!

On 19 June 2025, the classrooms of Bundanoon Public School were filled with excitement, learning—and the smell of freshly baked wombat shaped cookies!

Thanks to the initiative of Year 5/6 teacher Mr Greg McCroary, a long-time supporter of John Creighton’s work with wombats, students came together to raise funds for the Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary. The whole school embraced the event with joy, curiosity, and an inspiring sense of care for our local wildlife.

Leading up to Wombat Cookie Day, students and families placed their orders for their cookies, with proceeds going directly to support our work with native wildlife. In total, close to 1,000 wombat cookies were made and shared—an incredible effort and a clear show of community spirit.

One of the most touching moments of the day came when a student quietly handed over an envelope containing her own savings—donated from the heart to help care for wombats. This simple gesture reminded us of the power of connection, education, and compassion. It’s children like her who give us real hope for the future.

We extend our deepest thanks to Mr McCroary, the school community, and all the helping hands who made this day possible. You’ve shown that education and action go hand-in-hand—and that even the smallest gestures can have a big impact.

Help Us Grow Our Education Centre

Events like Wombat Cookie Day highlight why education is at the heart of conservation. We’re currently raising funds to establish an Education Centre for the Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary—a space where students, volunteers, and community members can learn, connect, and become active stewards of our environment.
