Donate Today. Help Us Stop Extinction Before It’s Too Late.
The Southern Highlands Wildlife Sanctuary (SHWS) is a locally founded non-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and protection of native Australian wildlife.
Based in Bundanoon, NSW, and surrounded by the rich biodiversity of Morton National Park, we were established by passionate community members to provide lasting care for threatened species like koalas, wombats, sugar gliders and quolls.
Did you know, Koalas in New South Wales are now on track to become extinct by 2050.
This is no longer a distant threat — it’s an unfolding crisis. And we’re taking action.
Your donation supports:
- Ongoing emergency rescue and treatment of mange in the local wombat population
- Disease research (chlamydia, koala retrovirus, mange)
- Genetic rescue, translocation and rewilding for endangered koalas
- Habitat protection & restoration in the Southern Highlands
- The creation of a dedicated Education Centre to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders. We already have the land for this center, right in the heart of Bundanoon & planning is underway.
- The development of a Research Centre of Excellence — a nationally significant hub for applied conservation science, focused on saving species through research in genetics, disease management, translocation, and ecosystem restoration.
As we work to secure a permanent sanctuary site, your support helps us build more than just infrastructure — it helps build a future.
SHWS — Built by Locals. Backed by Science. Powered by You.
This is your moment to act.
Koalas can’t wait. Wildlife can’t speak. But you can help.
